Scrubbing Mode

Scrubbing mode allows a /24 network to be published via BGP instead of a /32 at the time of an attack.

Normally when Blackhole protection is used, an IP Address with a 32-bit mask (/32) is published via BGP and is accompanied by a particular community, usually Blackhole.

Scrubbing centres need to redirect traffic entirely to their infrastructure in order to filter the attack and leave the traffic clean.

In order to redirect traffic, at least a /24 must be used, that is why with this functionality we can publish a /24 with the particular community. Then with filters / routing policies, the respective changes will be made in the router to be able to redirect the traffic.

Note: A functional BGP peer is required to use this functionality.
